Dialled In presents Ustad Noor Bakhsh and Pritt, live.
Expect the unexpected as the acclaimed Pakistani maestro Ustad Noor Bakhsh headlines his UK debut, supported by Eelam Tamil-rooted and South-London-raised Pritt.
It is an honour to welcome 79-year-old Noor Baksh, who plays the Balochi benju (a keyed Zither) accompanied by damboora player Doshambay in an experimental, energising showcase comprised of original compositions, Balochi musical forms, South Asian Raags and Arabic, Persian and Kurdish folk arrangements that echo a time before the modern borders of Iran and Pakistan.
This double-bill is opened by Denmark-born vocalist Pritt, who leads a live ensemble of ghatam, morsing, handpan and sitar, blending Carnatic melisma with modern melodies that connect her Eelam Tamil heritage and European upbringing, resulting in a soulful, unorthodox treatment of an ‘East meets West’ live performance.
Look forward to an uplifting musical programme that travels through the multiplicity of the global South Asian migration since the beginning of time.
